Line Of Duty Mart kicked out of Nest
MARTIN Compston’s drama The Nest has been axed, we can reveal.
The show has been ditched by the BBC after a single series.
It is a major blow for Line Of Duty star Martin, 36.
A TV insider said: “Execs at the BBC had meetings about the future of a number of shows.
“It was decided they wouldn’t commission another run of The Nest. “The show was a really big deal for Martin. “It was his chance to prove he can be a star away from Line Of Duty. And while he gave a great performance, it wasn’t enough.”
The show has been axed due to Covid-19, according to sources at the Beeb. One said: “The virus has thrown the TV world into chaos. “It is much harder to make shows at the moment because of all the restrictions.
“All channels are having to prioritise some shows and ditch others. The Nest is a casualty of that.” The show was a ratings smash for the BBC. It pulled in more than eight million viewers when it aired last spring – making it one of the biggest dramas of 2020. The Nest saw Martin and co-star Sophie Rundle playing a couple who hire a troubled teen to be a surrogate mum. The storyline was praised by both critics and viewers. Bosses at production company Studio Lambert are hoping the BBC will have a rethink once the pandemic is over.
Our insider added: “The Nest was a big success, so everyone who made it feels like there is plenty of appetite for another series.” Representatives at the BBC and Studio Lambert did not respond to requests for comment.
