Dykes at double to pile Moore misery on

JAMIE SMITH watched his Owls side thumped by a Lyndon Dykes-inspired QPR and then admitted he cannot wait for Darren Moore’s return to training tomorrow.

Owls boss Moore has been forced to watch the last three matches at home on TV after testing positive for Covid.

Wednesday are now seven points from safety but assistant Smith said: “We can definitely get out of trouble.

“It would have been better if the gaffer was here. Zoom and Facetime is not the same.

“He’s very influential, we’re very looking forward to having him back. He was in constant contact and was frustrated, everyone is.”

QPR were without the suspended Charlie Austin but Dykes filled his boots superbly. The Scotland ace’s lovely 27th-minute glancing header from Yoann Barbet’s cross opened the scoring.

Wednesday levelled three minutes later through Josh Windass.

But an ugly 50th-minute goal changed things as Stefan Johansen’s shot took a deflection off Osaze Urhoglide, with keeper Joe Wildsmith making a mess of the save.

Then Dykes nodded in his fourth goal in four games and Chris Willock wrapped up the scoring in the last minute.

Boss Mark Warburton said: “We exposed them at the back. It was a good game for the neutral.

“Lyndon deserves so much credit. The only criticism is he should have had a hat-trick.”
