REUNITED FOR THEIR GRANDAD

Hopes rift is over as princes chat

THE warring princes took their first steps back to friendship as they united in grief for their grandad.

Prince William and his publicityshy brother were seen together for the first time since one quit as a senior royal for a quiet life in LA. Their cousin Peter Phillips walked between them as they entered St George’s Chapel behind the Duke of Edinburgh’s coffin.

After the ceremony, the brothers fell into step together alongside Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.

All three were then seen chatting as they headed towards Windsor Castle. It has been more than a year since the privacy-loving man and his shy wife quit The Firm.

But the scenes yesterday suggest the onceclose brothers may yet heal their rift. ITV’s royal reporter Tom Bradby, who was pals with both men before the split, said: “Funerals are a time of reconciliation and that’s a sight, let’s be honest, that many wanted to see. Not least the family itself.” The US

television star Gayle King, who is friends with Mrs Shy, said: “Family differences will be set aside for the day.”

Tensions between the brothers have boiled over since the wallflower couple made a string of shocking claims in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, aired last month.

But both men were close to Prince Philip and last week they honoured his memory with moving tributes. A body language expert said there appeared to be “no forced show” in the touching scene between the brothers.

Adrianne Carter reckoned: “Kate seemed to take the lead in chatting, but when the brothers started to walk together it was entirely natural with no sign of stress or discord in their companionship.

“There was no forced show and no sign of avoiding each other, which they could easily have done. In fact, William paused so Harry could walk up the hill with them.

“It looks to me like grief has reunited them.”

Mrs Shy was said to be honouring Prince Philip’s memory at home in the US, where she remained because she is heavily pregnant and was advised not to travel.
