- ■ by DAVID JARVIS

SNOOKER ace Stephen Hendry says he learned to play the game by copying stars on the telly.

The seven-time world champ, who is making a comeback after nine years of retirement, revealed he didn’t have a proper coach until he was an established player.

Hendry, 52, said: “In the beginning, I learned everything from watching TV and trying to do the shots – watching the likes of Jimmy White and Steve Davis.

“I wanted to learn their games. I didn’t have a coach until later on in my career.”

Speaking on The High Performance Podcast, Hendry said he practised on his own at a club as a teenager. He added: “My dad would drop me off at 10 in the morning.

“I’d stay until six with an hour for lunch and I’d practise on my own seven days a week.”

Ahmed thinks the world needs films more than ever.
