Owls face drop but Neil on the whiskey

- By SIMON BIRD

THE misery is almost over for Sheffield Wednesday.

Six points deducted, five managers later, four points adrift from safety, they are heading – almost certainly – to League One.

Teenager Josh Coburn grabbed the crucial second Boro goal to help condemn Wednesday to another defeat.

The 6ft 3in teenage striker rose to head home Neeskens Kebano’s cross in just his second outing for Neil Warnock’s side.

Boro added a third when Duncan Watmore scrambled home Yannick Bolasie’s ball.

Warnock’s men struck first when Bolasie smashed home his third goal of the season after 20 minutes.

Going behind has always meant defeat for Wednesday this season.

They have not won a single point from losing positions this campaign.

And so it proved again despite Josh Windass tucking away only their third equaliser of the season when he converted a penalty before half-time.

The game was delayed when Wednesday defender Tom Lees screamed in pain as he suffered a bad ankle injury and was taken off.

Jamie Smith, in charge for the Owls while boss Darren Moore battles ill health, said: “I am disappointed. We had chances. It was a lack of concentration. Maybe I have to scream at them from the sidelines more.”

Warnock said: “I might have a large Scotch tonight. It is not often you beat Sheffield Wednesday.”
