ROUTES TO THE FINAL
MAN CITY
3rd rd, Sept 24: Won 2-1 v Bournemouth
Liam Delap marked his senior debut with a goal. The striker, 17, who was one of five teenagers to start, netted early with a ferocious left-footed strike but City needed a Phil Foden winner to prevail after being pegged back by Sam Surridge.
4th rd, Sept 30: Won 3-0 v Burnley
Raheem Sterling struck twice in an impressive display in which he also forced a handful of good saves from Bailey PeacockFarrell. Ferran Torres wrapped up the win with his first goal for the club.
Quarter-final, Dec 22:
Won 4-1 v Arsenal
Pep Guardiola’s men were ruthless as they took advantage of the poor form Arsenal were in at the time. Alexandre Lacazette did cancel out Gabriel Jesus’ third-minute opener but City upped the tempo in the second half with goals from Riyad Mahrez, Foden and Aymeric Laporte.
Semi-final, Jan 6: Won
2-0 v Man United
Both sides had goals disallowed in the first half but City proved too strong after the break. John Stones made the vital breakthrough following a set-piece and captain Fernandinho secured their place at Wembley with a powerful long-range strike.
TOTTENHAM
3rd rd, Sept 22: Bye after Leyton Orient forfeited
The game was called off two hours before kick-off after Orient were struck down by a coronavirus outbreak in the camp. They petitioned to the EFL that the game should be rescheduled for a later date but under Carabao Cup rules they had to forfeit the tie.
4th rd, Sept 29: Won 5-4 on penalties v Chelsea (1-1 after
90 minutes)
Spurs fell behind to Timo Werner’s first Chelsea goal midway through the first half. But a much-improved second-half performance was rewarded with an Erik Lamela equaliser in the final
10 minutes, sending it to penalties. It was a highquality shootout, until Mason Mount struck the post with the 10th spot-kick.
Quarter-final, Dec 23: Won
3-1 v Stoke
Spurs faced tough Championship opposition but came through with a strong finish. Gareth Bale’s header gave them a first-half lead before Jordan Thompson levelled for Stoke early in the second half. Ben Davies’ 70th-minute strike and a Harry Kane goal ensured there was no shock.
Semi-final, Jan 6: Won 2-0 v
Brentford
Another Championship outfit stood in the way of Spurs and the final. Moussa Sissoko’s header put them in early control before Ivan Toney had a goal disallowed by VAR for Brentford. Heung-min Son killed the game 20 minutes from time.
