Wells snatches win in the Nahk of time

- By IAN BAKER

NIGEL PEARSON insisted his Bristol City side were not lucky despite Nahki Wells’ smash-and-grab raid on his former club.

QPR dominated with 23 shots but Robins goalkeeper Dan Bentley starred and sub Wells then fired home a stoppage-time winner.

Wells was a hero in these parts after 18 months on loan from Burnley before moving to Ashton Gate in 2020. ............. 1 ... 2

But not anymore as he celebrated in front of the away fans after his last-gasp strike.

Earlier Chris Martin had put City in front but Sam McCallum levelled and it seemed as if QPR would make their dominance count.

Pearson said: “We weren’t lucky. They were two great finishes. We were ruthless.

“We came up against a very good side. It took a lot of commitment to come out of the game.”

Despite his remarks, Pearson will surely reflect on his side being under severe pressure.

Lyndon Dykes headed on to the post from Chris Willock’s 20th-minute cross while Andre Gray was denied by the first of Bentley’s wonder saves.

Rangers created lots of chances after they drew level but Dykes and sub Charlie Austin were both denied by the City keeper.

QPR manager Mark Warburton said: “We need to be more ruthless. It was chance after chance and they were hanging on at the end for a point.”
