LAWRENCE: JITTERY JAGS CAN BE RED HOT AT TOTT

- ■ by MICHAEL HAM

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS quarterback Trevor Lawrence insists there are no doubts about his future – despite a rough start to his NFL career.

The Jaguars are in London today looking for their first win of the season against the

1-4 Miami Dolphins.

Coming into this year as the overall No.1 pick in the draft, Lawrence was expected to help turn things around quickly in Jacksonville alongside new coach Urban Meyer (right).

But having never lost a regular season game in his LIFE up until starting for the Jaguars, Lawrence and his teammates are

0-5 and are looking to turn things around – and quick.

Ahead of the game at the Tottenham

Hotspur Stadium, he said: “We haven’t started the way we wanted to but we still have 12 games left.

“There’s a lot of time left. That’s our goal, every week, to get better.

“We’re getting there and we’re coming along, and starting to click and playing much better football. “Regardless of whatever happens in these next 12 games, I plan on being in Jacksonville for a long time. It’s really a big-picture thing.

“I’m going to keep getting better every week and I think this team will do the same.

“I have a lot of confidence in the people we have – the coaches, the group. The team has been great. I don’t have any doubts about that.” The Jaguars have now lost 20 in a row, just six behind the Tampa Bay’s all-time NFL record.

But coach Meyer said: “I look at our team, how hard they’ve worked and how close they’ve come.

“This is a great opportunity. We’re happy to be here. We have a heck of a locker room and the guys are working their tails off.

“Jacksonville has been great. Our fans have been outstanding – they want to win. We’ve got a great young quarterback and we’re getting good pieces around him.”

Meanwhile, the Dolphins expect QB Tua Tagovailoa to start today after breaking his ribs in week two. But they will be without key cornerback Xavien Howard and wide receiver DeVante Parker due to injuries.
