Scott swaps cuppas for cup

- ADAM MILLINGTON

MANCHESTER CITY’S Jill Scott admits that Chelsea will be the favourites when the two meet in the semi-finals of the Women’s FA Cup today.

Holders City have been hit by an injury crisis this year which has seen them slip to ninth in the WSL table, 11 points adrift of the top spot.

But the Blues saw an improvement when they came from behind to draw the Manchester derby despite having a player sent-off and will be hoping to carry that form into the cup clash.

“We’re under no illusion that Chelsea are massively going to be favourites because of the start of the season we’ve had,” she said.

“I think that people speak about the players that are missing quite a bit but if you look at the team and the bench as well, we still have a very good team that is more than capable of competing.”

And the lack of players has left boss Gareth Taylor struggling to fill positions on the pitch, leading Scott to have to deputise in an unnatural centre-back role.

She added: “If I’m being honest it has been a challenge. I’m used to playing in attacking midfield.

“I think it’s been good for me. I even joked at one point that I’d play anywhere so I think that joke came true.”

Away from football, the England stalwart has recently opened up a coffee shop in Manchester and has enjoyed being able to spend time on her business to escape from the stress of the game.

“I just love to be busy,” said Scott. “I’m not one of these people that will sit and just chill.

“And I think it’s good to have a focus away from the pitch.”
