Wayne turning the air Roo after Ben’s goals wreck Rams

- TIM NASH

WAYNE ROONEY was furious as Ben Brereton Diaz left Derby seeing double, to wreck prospective owner Chris Kirchner’s latest trip to Pride Park.

Chilean hotshot Brereton Diaz, 22, scored twice to make it

12 goals for the season to underline the size of the task Kirchner has if he takes over.

The US businessman,

34, who attended the previous home game against Luton, is in talks over a £50million takeover of the Rams.

But he couldn’t have been impressed with Rooney’s toothless side until a late rally.

Ultimately, Derby were no match for Brereton Diaz – or Blackburn – as they lost their eightmatch unbeaten home run stretching back to April.

Rooney said: “In the first half we weren’t good enough.

“I could have made the two substitutions after 25 minutes and I was hoping to get to half-time at 2-0 down.

“We weren’t aggressive enough and didn’t play with enough energy. We didn’t have enough composure on the ball, our back-four was too deep and there were too many gaps between the lines.”

Former Forest striker Brereton Diaz starred as Rovers made an impressive start, with Sam Gallagher blowing two early chances before they took an eighth-minute lead.

The striker bundled home at the far post after keeper Kelle Roos fumbled and goalline technology ruled the ball had crossed the line.

He doubled Rovers’ lead in the 20th minute, slotting home after latching on to Tyrhys Dolan’s through pass.

DERBY BLACKBURN

And he wasted a chance for his hat-trick when he fired straight at Roos.

The prolific striker then turned provider but Gallagher sliced his cross high and wide.

Derby failed to threaten until the 40th minute when Ravel Morrison’s first-time low, angled effort was comfortably saved by keeper Thomas Kaminski.

Rooney made a double substitution to shake things up at the break. On came Sam Baldock and Colin Kazim-Richards for Louie Sibley and Kamil Jozwiak.

They made minimal impact initially as Rovers fans sang, ‘How do you watch this every week?’ But it was Derby supporters singing in the 89th minute when Curtis Davies hooked home after Rovers failed to clear Bird’s free-kick.

Kazim-Richards almost equalised in time added on but his poked shot hit the post.

And the substitute then ballooned a shot wide when he was clean through at the death, as Derby pushed for an equaliser.

Rovers chief Tony Mowbray said: “Ben is confident but the whole front three deserve huge credit because their work ethic to put them under pressure was immense.”
