Piroe on cloud nine after Posh squashed

- SWANSEA P’BOROUGH By STEFFAN THOMAS

JOEL PIROE continued his red-hot streak as Russell Martin got one over his old boss Darren Ferguson.

His ninth goal of the season helped Swansea head coach Martin to victory over the side he used to play for.

Jake Bidwell and Olivier Ntcham also found the back of the net for the Swans who move up to 13th in the Championship table.

“We gave up a couple of chances in the first-half which we were a bit annoyed about but apart from that we were outstanding really,” said Martin, who was quick to praise Piroe.

“He’s in a really good vein of form. He’s enjoying himself, he’s feeling very confident.

“And he works so hard for the team, some of his actions off the ball were incredible.”

Swansea scored after just 77 seconds.

Ryan Bennett’s long ball found Ethan Laird who went racing up the touchline and whipped the ball into the path of Bidwell, who tapped it into the back of the net.

Piroe’s powerful shot from the edge of the box beat goalkeeper David Cornell to put the Swans 2-0 up.

The hosts dominated the first-half with the visitors unable to cope with their pace and passing game.

And the Welsh club turned around with a 3-0 lead after Ntcham drilled his low shot through the Peterborough defence and past Cornell.

“It was a horrendous start and at that point you are really just trying to stay in the game,” said Posh boss Ferguson.

“There were lapses in concentration and if we give the ball away in a terrible area then teams will punish us.”
