Robins are finally chirping at home during Pearson reign

- By RICHARD LATHAM

NIGEL PEARSON heaped praise on Bristol City’s long-suffering fans after seeing his Ashton Gate nightmare finally end.

Two goals from Andreas Weimann just before the break sank unlucky Barnsley and gave the Robins their first home win in 18 games.

Fifteen of those have been with Pearson in charge and he admitted relief at seeing his side hold out under severe pressure at the end.

“Our supporters were fantastic,” said the Robins boss. “The noise in the closing stages was unbelievable.

“We have played a lot better at home this season and lost. But today the result was everything.

“Of course, there is a feeling of relief. The home run we have been on is unfathomable and hopefully we can make this result a turning point.”

Barnsley took a 28thminute lead when Devante Cole got behind City’s

But Weimann (right) equalised on 42 minutes before putting

City ahead in first-half stoppage time with a precise side-footed finish.

Barnsley boss Markus Schopp was left frustrated.

“We couldn’t have created more chances and the ball just wouldn’t go in,” he said.
