HOTEL OF THE WEEK Pullman London St Pancras

- BY JON AUSTIN

WHERE AND WHY: With commanding views of the city and a short walk to St Pancras, King’s Cross and Euston stations, this property is in an ideal location for anyone wanting to visit London in style.

A £13million revamp has given the building a modern theme, and a glass lift allows guests to view their rise above the capital as it climbs the 16 floors of the four-star hotel.

The modern reception leads to a flamboyant restaurant and bar area with a DJ spinning techno tunes and several Instagrammable features including a pink phone box and artificial trees.

Rooms are sleek and modern with views, large TVs, minibars, desks, tea and coffeemaking facilities, nice décor and 24-hour room service.

My upgraded room included a separate sofa area and a Bose docking station for your phone to charge it and play music.

The washroom had a luxury double shower with water from above and the wall, and all the essential toiletries, plus robe and slippers.

The reception includes a computer area for guests, but free wi-fi is provided.

Other amenities include a fitness centre with gym and sauna.

The Pullman has signed up to Covid ALLSAFE, which includes “elevated hygiene & prevention measures to ensure your safety”.

ON THE MENU: Guests eat at the vibrant GA KingsX – Bar & Kitchen, which is open to the public and reasonably priced for central London with starters from £6 and mains £16.

Food is a mixture of fusion and British classics with an international twist. The bar specialises in gin with a “50 Tastes of Gin” list.

The breakfast buffet is impressive with quality ingredients and everything needed for a full English or Continental.

WHILE YOU’RE THERE: The location is great for most of London‘s sights, but the British Library is next door. Regent’s Park and London Zoo are within a mile, as are Camden or Soho for a funky night out, the famous waxworks at Madame Tussaud‘s and the British Museum. Several pubs are within a few minutes walk. Covent Garden, Oxford Street and the West End are all 10 minutes by tube.

BOOK IT: Rooms from £185 a night. There is no parking available at the hotel. all.accor.com
