Bowen nowhere blasts Moyes

- HARRY PRATT

DAVID MOYES dismissed talk of West Ham star Jarrod Bowen being a target for the Premier League elite and insisted: “He’s at a top club!”

To the surprise of many, the ex-Hull forward, 24, was heavily linked with a £30million summer move to Liverpool.

And, ahead of the Reds’ visit to the London Stadium today, Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed he is a huge admirer of Bowen, who has cracked three goals in his last seven outings.

However, according to Hammers manager Moyes, the player does not need to join a big club – because he is with one already.

Asked about the transfer speculation surrounding Bowen, the Scot said: ‘’Well, he’s at a top club.

“It’s about the level of consistency Jarrod now needs to bring to his game.

“We are trying to up his goals, and his assists. All these things. And with Said Benrahma as well.

“You’ve got to remember they’ve both come out of the Championship. It’s a really good grounding for them. They are hungry to succeed, desperate to get better, desperate to improve their finishing.

“You can hardly get them off the training ground.

“And the two are great team players.”

West Ham are in touch with Liverpool in the table – and will overtake them if they win this afternoon.

But Moyes knows the basics must be done.

“That maybe makes the difference between you finishing in the top four or not quite,” he said.

“But we have a great amount of belief.

“On some occasions it’s come from our football, sometimes from a set-piece goal and on some occasions because we keep a clean sheet.

“All those aspects of the game we have to keep doing well. In every game we have to do a couple of those well if we are to win.”
