Mark fears falling foul of Rams raid

-

QPR boss Mark Warburton says that Derby can play with “freedom” having had their disputes with the EFL resolved.

The Rams were dealt a 21-point deduction as a result of entering administration and other financial issues.

But recent form has seen them return to positive numbers in the league standings.

Wayne Rooney’s side have picked up five points from their last three matches, including an impressive

3-2 win over promotionchasing Bournemouth.

Next up for Derby is a home clash with fourth-placed QPR. And Warburton said: “This is our toughest game of the season so far.

“The points deduction has happened and it’s out of their control.

“But they can play with real freedom and express themselves now. They’ll have a target and you have to respect that, otherwise you’ll get hurt. The players and staff will feel a sense of injustice and will come out firing.

“They have a passionate crowd who will feel that injustice as well. Twenty-one points is some deduction but they’ve a fantastic set-up and something to aim for.

“You should never underestimate a group of players and staff when they have something to play for.”

Derby will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run to four.

Meanwhile, boss Rooney (inset) wants to extend the contract of defender Phil Jagielka beyond the end of this season.

Jagielka, 39, joined the Rams in August on a short-term deal that expires in mid-January.

Rooney said: “I think he is a fantastic player, he is in great condition and with his experience he can only benefit the young lads.”
