Play-offs dream not Oba yet for Wilder

- By DELME PARFITT

BORO boss Chris Wilder insisted his side can still make the play-offs despite losing further ground on their rivals.

A deflected shot from Australian midfielder Riley McGree went in via the crossbar to give them a 46th-minute lead at the Swansea.com Stadium.

But the home side levelled almost instantly through in-form striker Michael Obafemi.

Wilder’s team should have been 2-0 up but Marcus Tavernier spurned a great chance while in acres of space.

Defender Marc Bola also rattled the crossbar and right-back Anfernee Dijksteel failed to convert after an incredible solo run.

Boro, in eighth with a game in hand, now look virtual certainties to remain in the Championship having taken two points from a possible 15.

But asked if his side could still make the top six, Wilder said: “Yes, 100 per cent. I haven’t got a crystal ball, I don’t know what’s in front of us but there is no given result in this division.

“We’re back home on Wednesday night and it’s a season-defining game.”

Swans boss Russell Martin insisted his side have grown in stature even though they’re not in play-off contention.

He said: “I am really excited about next season. We’ve shown intensity, courage and bravery.

“We were brave today, we had dominance and control at times and we want to take this momentum into the next campaign.”
