Hogan’s hoping to Wrex their title aims

- Wrexham v Stockport NEIL GOULDING

Today, 12.30pm

LIAM HOGAN has experienced joy and heartache in the play-offs – but now he’s gunning for National League title glory with Stockport.

County take on Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground this afternoon knowing victory would see them crowned champions.

“It’s our play-off final, it’s a huge game for both clubs,” said Hogan, 33, whose brother Scott is the Birmingham and Republic of Ireland striker.

“We’ve got three games left to try to achieve what we set out to do at the start of the season.

“We’re within touching distance of becoming champions but we want to get it done and win the title as soon as possible.

“Wrexham want to keep their title chances alive because they can still do it, so it’s a great game.”

And experienced centre-back Hogan knows how much promotion – and winning the title – would mean to the club’s loyal fanbase.

Victory would see them secure a memorable promotion back to the Football League, 11 years after they suffered a gut-wrenching relegation.

The Hatters went on a staggering 21-game unbeaten run this season, with leading scorer Paddy Madden having led the way with 23 goals in all competitions.

“To go on the unbeaten run which we did, with as many games as it was, shows how ruthless and consistent we were,” added Hogan.

“We literally just took every game that was in front of us – and it paid off. We’re in a great position because of that.

“We’ve got a great balance with a lot of talented young players and also experience.

“The club really deserves that for battling through a lot of dark times.”
