‘It’s going to be the sexiest Love Island ever!’

Voice-over legend Iain Stirling says we should prepare for some very buffed Islanders as the dating show returns

-

It won’t be long before we’re hearing Iain Stirling’s witty Love Island commentary on a daily basis. And from the sounds of it, the changes to this year’s villa in Majorca will see the Islanders getting hot and bothered in more ways than one – thanks to the addition of new gym equipment!

At 34, the Scotsman has built up an almost cult status doing the voice-over for the ITV2 show.

But before the new series kicks off in June, Iain has been busy with his biggest stand-up tour to date. He’s also about to embark on his sixth series hosting madcap entertainment show

CelebAbility. And his first Amazon Original stand-up special, Failing Upwards, has just been released.

Yet for all that, Iain is unflappably cool when we catch up, and that is partly down to becoming a father. He and his wife, Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore, 37, welcomed their daughter last March.

Here, we quiz Iain on this year’s

Love Island and life as a dad…

Hi, Iain. What can you tell us about Love Island 2022 and the new villa?

I’ve not seen the villa. I like to wait and see it on the first day and meet the Islanders for the first time, so I’m like a viewer seeing it for the first time, too.

How will this series compare?

Well, I imagine if there’s more working-out space it’ll be the sexiest series we’ve ever had!

Do you worry about what you’ll say?

No, because every season there have been some absolute blinders – like after Casa Amor when Shaughna told Callum “Congrats, hun” after he recoupled with Molly. Or with the ‘who kissed who?’ debacle between Georgia and Jack. So I’m always confident there will be great moments.

How has being a dad changed you?

It shifts your priorities. It’s a really good way of helping you realise what’s important. I worry less about stuff. Like, if I was doing a gig, I would worry about the lighting, or maybe being late, and you just leave behind all those little niggles now.

CelebAbility is back soon. Did you think it would be such a success?

For any panel show to last so long feels crazy. We just have a laugh and it’s fun – like a little holiday. And it’s getting better all the time. I think the celebrities understand it more than ever and the prizes are better this year.

And now you’re going global with a stand-up show on Amazon Prime. How do you keep grounded?

I’ve got my mum and dad back home and friends there keeping things normal. I also think my stand-up has helped. It’s nothing like being a celebrated actor. It keeps you humble.

Failing Upwards is available on Prime Video. CelebAbility premieres on ITV2 on 16 June. Love Island starts on 6 June at 9pm on ITV2
