Tammy focused on team goals & his Italian Job

- STEVE BATES

TAMMY ABRAHAM has vowed to help Harry Kane become England’s all-time greatest goalscorer – even though he’s after his job.

Tottenham and England star Kane is just five goals away from overtaking Wayne Rooney as the Three Lions’ top scorer.

But while Roma star Abraham is happy to tee up the Spurs golf fanatic against Germany in Munich on Tuesday, ultimately, he wants Kane’s shirt.

“I think for every player that’s the right mentality – being positive,” Abraham said.

“We are all buzzing for Harry, we want him to smash the record and we’re always here to support him.

“Whenever

I’m given a chance if I’m on the pitch with him, I’ll try to help him get to his targets.

“But for me, it’s all about getting an opportunity, grabbing it with two hands and showing what you’re made of.

“I went from a position (at Chelsea), where I was starting and playing games to a position where I was second or third choice.

“At the end of the day, we won the Champions League but I wasn’t the one to score. I wasn’t even on the pitch.

“You learn that sometimes you have to accept these moments and that it’s not always going to be you.

“It’s going to be someone else from your team, so it’s about supporting and helping as much as possible.

“For me, whoever scores at the World Cup I’ll be by buzzing for. If it’s not me and it’s Harry Kane, I’m celebrating the same, like it is me.

“That’s the kind of team we have here.

“Everyone’s happy for each other. Everyone wants everyone to be successful.”

Abraham is certainly doing that under Jose Mourinho after a goal-filled debut Serie A season, following his £34million move from Stamford Bridge last summer.

It was a brave move by the forward, 24, who had been at Chelsea since he was seven.

But it’s already paid off – and Abraham really is living ‘la dolce vita’ after finishing the season with 27 goals and a winners’ medal in the inaugural Europa Conference League with Mourinho’s stars beating Feyenoord in the final.

“Rome has been great. On and off the pitch, life’s been good,” he added.

“This was my first time in Rome. I’d never even been there on holiday before but it’s been amazing learning about the history, culture and different style of living.

“I lived in London my whole life, so it’s nice to embrace something different – even learning Italian!

“It’s so hard to learn and you can get lazy at times.

“But I’ve dedicated my mind towards learning a different language. Jose has walked in on me when I’ve been doing Italian lessons – and now he thinks I’m an expert.

“In fact, he now only speaks Italian to

me.”
