Love rat killed his wife after his cheating was exposed – then staged a fall in shower

Stacy Feldman challenged her husband after his mistress got in touch with her – but she could not have imagined how he would react

-

It was 6.20am when Stacy Feldman got an email that would culminate in tragedy. The message from a stranger contained information that she couldn’t ignore, so she picked up her phone and made a call. By the end of the day, Stacy was dead.

It was March 2015 and the 44-year-old lived in Denver, Colorado with her husband Robert Feldman and their two children. They had been married for a decade.

Nurturing Stacy was a fantastic mother with a great sense of humour who loved having fun with her children.

But police were alerted to a tragedy on 1 March, when her husband called 911.

Feldman said he’d come home and found his wife unresponsive in the bath with the water still running. He said he’d pulled her out and performed CPR.

Feldman had picked up his kids from Sunday school and taken

them to a carnival, and he said when they’d returned Stacy was badly injured in the bathroom.

Had she taken a shower and slipped? Paramedics rushed to the scene but, tragically, Stacy couldn’t be saved.

Feldman told emergency services what he thought might have happened. He mentioned she’d had some edible marijuana the night before at a party, along with some wine, and had been feeling ill that day, which could have made her slip.

He also suggested she might have had a medical condition that made her collapse.

With so many unanswered questions, police were surprised when Feldman was reluctant for an autopsy to be held. Didn’t he want to know what had killed his wife?

There was very little water outside of the bath, too, which those on the scene found unusual. How had Stacy been pulled out without splashing water all over the floor?

$750,000 LIFE INSURANCE

An autopsy went ahead. Stacy had injuries on her body but it was concluded that they had been caused from the fall or from being dragged out of the bath. And while it didn’t look as though Feldman had conducted CPR, like he’d claimed, the paramedics had, which can cause bruising.

There was also no sign of marijuana in Stacy’s system.

Her death was classified as “undetermined” and her family were unhappy at the lack of answers. Meanwhile, Feldman collected a $750,000 life insurance policy they had taken out five years earlier.

Then, three months later, a woman contacted the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers phoneline.

She’d seen Stacy’s obituary and had felt compelled to get in touch – revealing that she was Feldman’s mistress. She said they’d met on Tinder a month before Stacy died and started a relationship. After a few dates, they’d had sex.

Feldman had told her he was divorced. But the woman wasn’t convinced, so she had gone online and discovered he was still married.

On the morning of Stacy’s death, Feldman’s lover had emailed Stacy to ask if they were still together. Stacy had called her back and revealed they were still married – and had allegedly said Feldman had been unfaithful before and she was “done with him”. Hours later, Stacy was dead.

When Feldman’s mistress read Stacy’s obituary and saw that she had died the very same day they’d spoken about the affair, it had set off alarm bells.

Investigators had some shocking new information – but it would take two years before they could find a

medical expert who could help them act on it.

In October 2017, a new doctor who specialised in domestic violence injuries looked at Stacy’s case. He said he believed that her injuries were the result of

“an assault, which included blunt force trauma, strangulation and suffocation”.

Feldman was arrested in February 2018 and charged with firstdegree murder. He was accused of killing Stacy and staging it to look like an accident.

It appeared that Stacy’s family, who had constantly campaigned for justice, were finally going to get answers. Feldman was released on bail and allowed to live under house arrest – although he was leaving the house when he shouldn’t have been.

And despite legal challenges from Stacy’s family, Feldman used $550,000 of his wife’s life insurance policy to pay for his defence team. Their legal guardian argued the money should have gone to Stacy’s

‘This is all because you couldn’t keep your pants zipped’

children – not on defending a man who had potentially killed their mother.

Feldman’s trial started in April this year, seven years after Stacy’s death, and he pleaded not guilty.

His defence said he had been unfaithful before and Stacy had known about it, so why would he have killed his wife over this infidelity? They insisted she had died from natural causes, possibly an enlarged heart, and reminded the jury that the autopsy results had been debated by many experts.

But the prosecution said Stacy had been beaten and strangled by her husband because she had confronted him over his affair. They said it was no coincidence that she had died the same day she had spoken to Feldman’s new lover.

Stacy had said she was “done with him”. It had been the final straw and it was likely they’d argued while the children weren’t at home. On the

day she died, Stacy was supposed to pick up her children from Sunday school – but Feldman had appeared there instead, running an hour late.

The prosecution said he was late because he had been cleaning up and staging the scene. Feldman had appeared in shorts – even though the weather was cold.

He’d then taken the kids to a church carnival and returned to the house to “discover” his wife.

‘A VICIOUS BEAT-DOWN’

“Stacy Feldman can’t tell you what happened that day but her body can,”the prosecution said.“And what it tells you is that she suffered a long, protracted and horrific beating. This was not from CPR. This was not from pulling her from the tub. This was not from a simple collapse in the shower. What this is, is evidence of a vicious beat-down.”

Feldman’s mistress testified in court, saying they’d met on the dating app and he’d been pushing her for naked pictures before they’d even met.

She said Feldman also lied about his name several times. When she confronted him about it, he said he used fake names because of his ugly divorce and a stalker.

They’d dated and had sex but when they went to arrange to meet again, he’d made his excuses, making her suspicious.

After she contacted Stacy, they had spoken on the phone while Feldman was dropping their children at the church. Feldman’s mistress had told Stacy she’d been referred to as an absentee mum – an accusation which Stacy had called “unbelievable”.

The prosecution said Stacy had confronted Feldman when he returned and he’d killed her – and the jurors agreed. After deliberating for just two hours, they found Feldman, 58, guilty of first-degree murder. Soon afterwards, the judge handed down his sentence.

Stacy’s mum, Dorothy Malman, gave a statement.“This is all because you couldn’t keep your pants zipped and agree to the divorce that Stacy wanted,” she told Feldman.

Stacy’s sister, Susan Malman Altman, said her family had been fighting for seven years to prove Feldman was guilty. They’d even paid for a private investigation to gather evidence.

“Instead of letting her go to be happy, he killed her,” she said.

The judge sentenced Feldman to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
