The Brimstone Hotel Great Langdale, Lake District

-

WHERE AND WHY

Located in the Langdale Valley, it’s perfectly situated for those looking to relax after a long day’s walking or if you’re just having a break from everyday life. Either way, it transports you to a world of luxury.

It oozes class from the moment you drive into the grounds and the staff are ready to help you get the best from your stay.

OUR ROOM The Fireside Suite took our breath away as soon as we walked in. Designed with a nod to the local landscape, the decor incorporates natural tones with a mix of slate, with a fantastic log burner built in.

The roll-top bath is an invitation to soak the morning away, but you might be just at home sitting out on your private balcony listening to the birds chirping and the trees swaying in the wind.

You’ve got arguably the comfiest ever bed, while little

touches mean a lot, such as the different light settings so you can get the mood right.

ON THE MENU

Guests have access to the reading room with its complimentary refreshments including beers and wine. There are scones and brownies in the morning, sandwiches in the afternoon and a cheeseboard by night – as well as complimentary cocktails to your door.

The on-site restaurant is The Stove. With friendly staff, the experience was enjoyable.

There was a fine choice to pick from, with starters from £6.50 and mains from £13. Breakfast is included and can either be delivered to your room or eaten in the restaurant. We opted to gamble on a sunny start to the day and weren’t disappointed as we tucked into a full English on the balcony.

WHILE YOU’RE THERE

A visit to the spa is a must. With a mix of steam and sauna rooms, plus a fantastic thermal pool, all your aches and worries will be forgotten about.

Treatments (£125 for 50 minutes) use Pure Alchemy products, which is Brimstone’s signature range. My better half opted for the Spellbind full body massage which took the stay up to another level.

The hotel’s tag line is you “won’t want to leave”, and it’s fair to say we didn’t.

WAKE-UP CALL

Suites from £450 a night B&B with spa access.
