‘SEX IN SUN IS A PASSION KILLER’ FEAR

- ■ by ALISTAIR GRANT sunday@dailystar.co.uk

BONKING Brits are being urged to cool their passion – as heatwave sex could kill.

Lovers risk having a heart attack and fatal heatstroke by having nookie during the 30C-plus hot spell.

Now experts are warning us to avoid “extreme physical exertion” such as bedroom action until temperatures drop.

The British Heart Foundation advised people not to overheat while the heatwave puts more strain on the body.

It said: “Hot weather means your body has to work harder to keep its core temperature to normal levels, and this puts extra strain on your heart. Stay cool and hydrated.”

But sex trebles the risk of a heart attack, a study by top US university Harvard showed.

A report published earlier this year identified 17 Britons who died from heart attacks during or just after having sex.

Two-thirds were men, with an average age of 38, St George’s University of London said.

And sex with a new partner or doing it missionary-style puts the heart under further stress, research shows.

Harvard said: “Sex with a new partner in an unfamiliar setting increases the risk to the heart.

“Sexual positions change potential effects on the heart. Having the man on top has greater energy expenditure for both partners than with the woman on top.”

The university added: “Men who experience possible cardiac symptoms during sex should interrupt the sexual activity at once.”

Meanwhile, the NHS said people should not undertake “extreme exercise” as it could cause heatstroke, which can be fatal.

A spokesman added: “During hot weather, there’s a high risk of heat exhaustion or heatstroke, which needs to be treated as an emergency. To help prevent it, avoid extreme exercise.”

The Government’s Heatwave Plan for England also warned: “Avoid extreme physical exertion.”

And in general health advice, it advised: “Place a thermometer in your living room and bedroom to keep a check on temperatures.”
