FALLOUT SHOW IS REAL BLAST
EARLIER this week, Amazon Prime and Bethesda Game Studios launched their Fallout TV show, directed by Jonathan Nolan of Westworld – and it’s really good.
The visuals, production design, and faithfulness to the source material are second to none, with excellent performances from Walton Goggins and Ella Purnell, respectively. This is up there with HBO’s The Last Of Us as one of the best videogame to TV adaptations.
Somewhat ironically though, it’s a genuine surprise the Fallout TV show got off the ground in the first place.
“This is something I said no to for, like, a decade,” Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard told IGN. “Everyone wanted to make a (Fallout) TV show or a movie, and
I was like, ‘nahhh.’ I wasn’t really feeling it.”
Howard was also asked about the possibility of seeing more TV shows based on the company’s other big franchises, like Elder Scrolls or Starfield, but that seems unlikely at this stage.
“Everybody asks, like, about Elder Scrolls, and I keep saying no also.
“And I would approach those – I’ll probably say no. You never know if someone’s gonna click. But I think this really came out of, ‘We think things are aligning to do a high-quality job.’ It wasn’t forced.
“It was kind of a natural relationship and, ‘Hey, this sounds really cool.’ As opposed to, ‘We should have a show, right?’ It never came from that.”
