EURO 2016: Wales v Belgium, Cardiff, 7.45pm ON TOP OF THE WORLD

Chris boys are big draw now

- By ANDREW GWILYM

CHRIS COLEMAN has urged Wales to show no fear tonight and become a world-class team.

A win against Belgium will not just take Wales top of their Euro 2016 qualification group, it will also guarantee them a place in the top pot of seeds at next month’s World Cup 2018 qualifying draw.

Belgium are rated the second-best team in the world and if Coleman’s men can somehow beat them, it could catapult them above European powerhouses Spain, Italy and France in the FIFA rankings.

“We moved up to our best ranking after beating Israel,” said Coleman.

“This time if we beat Belgium we’ll be in the top pot. In my industry we’re told to play everything down. Never look past the next game, which I don’t.

“But we’re in this situation and it’s a possibility. It’s something to look forward to, so why play it down?”

A surprise win would cap a remarkable rise for Wales, who are currently ranked 22nd in the world.

To make the dream a reality they need to overcome a Belgium team loaded with star power in Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois and Christian Benteke.

However, Coleman is ready to take the game to them at Cardiff City Stadium.

The Wales boss said: “We are running out in our capital city, there’s a full crowd and you’re playing against a good team like Belgium. You have to look forward to that.

“There’s nothing to be afraid of. Do we respect Belgium? No problem. But we believe in yourselves.

“You don’t fear the opposition, you believe in your own ability and your team-mates.”

Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale – who wins his 50th cap – will, as ever, be a key figure if Wales are to cause an upset.

And Coleman knows he has a man capable of winning a game in an instant.

He added: “Gareth embraces games like this. It’s his 50th cap and it is fitting it’s in a top-of-the-table clash.”
