WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

- MIKE WARD

IF, like me, you tend not to watch many science documentaries, can I urge you to make an exception?

You’ll be glad you did, after you see the new observational series starting this teatime.

It’s called CLANGERS (5.30pm, CBeebies) and it gives us the most intriguing insight into life on a distant, moon-like planet, inhabited by creatures which, although this seems odd, turn out to be sort of pink and mouse-like. And, er, woolly. These Clangers share this planet of theirs (which is blue, by the way) with various other beings, including a Soup Dragon, an Iron Chicken, and the Sky Moos (unusual cow-like things, not to be confused with Sky News).

Since the Clangers communicate via a strange whistling process, the BBC has wisely hired leading space expert Michael Palin to narrate each episode and talk us through what’s going on. IF the Clangers strike you as a simple species, just remember: they’re nowhere near as simple as Kevin Webster from CORONATION STREET (7.30pm & 8.30pm, ITV). Nobody is.

It’s only just occurred to the dozy twonk that his girlfriend, Blatantly Bonkers Jenny, is a bit, well, blatantly bonkers, the penny having finally dropped now that she’s run off to Hull with little Jack.

The good news is, they track her down tonight. The bad news is, she’s stood on the balcony of her flat, clutching the poor kid, and scarily close to the edge, both literally and mentally. Elsewhere, at 9.30pm, in a new series for ITV, Jason Manford tells us IT’S A FUNNY OLD WEEK.

I think we’ll be the judges of that.
