Evans sex case axed
Police quickly clear TV host
TOP Gear flop Chris Evans will face no charges over sex assault allegations because of “insufficient evidence,” Scotland Yard announced last night.
CHRIS Evans was told yesterday he will not be charged over sex attack allegations.
The ex-Top Gear host was quizzed on claims he exposed himself to a woman colleague and grabbed her boobs.
Police questioned Evans, 50, under caution yesterday.
But officers quickly decided there was “insufficient evidence to proceed”.
Evans was said to be delighted” last night. His spokesman also praised police for their “tact, grace and speed” in ditching the abuse claims which date back to the 1990s.
The TV presenter, who has always denied the allegations, previously hit out at what he called a “witch hunt” which has had a “devastating effect” on his family. A Metropolitan Police spokesman yesterday said: “An allegation of non-recent sexual assault was made to police on Monday, May, 23.
“Today a man in his 50s was interviewed under caution by police at an east London police building. The decision was made by the police that there was insufficient evidence to proceed.”
A spokesman for Evans said: “The police have acted with complete tact, grace and speed, and done a thorough and good job in a reasonable time.”
Evans saw his stint in charge of Top Gear become a huge flop and quit earlier this month after the final episode of his first series.
Co-host and former Friends star Matt LeBlanc, 49, is expected to take the reins.
