HOUSEHOLDS in every region of the UK have more cash than they did last year.

We’re getting more pay and spending more, a Barclays study showed.

Researchers looked at factors such as income, house prices, working hours and the time we give to charities.

It found Londoners led the way in enjoying better fortunes, but “prosperity hotspots” were popping up across the country.

Cities including Bristol and Cambridge have become “increasingly attractive areas to live and work” with house prices soaring.

Business is booming in Manchester, Cardiff and Sheffield, which saw some of the strongest turnover among small and medium-sized ventures.

Scotland enjoyed the biggest boost in household wealth, which rose by 13% ® compared to 12% in London. The north east emerged as the least well-off region in Britain, but the study said it was catching up on wealthy areas with an “impressive” 6% hike in average annual pay packets, reaching £24,748. There are also an extra 85,000 millionaires outside London and the south east – up 31% since 2010. Barclays’ wealth boss Akshaya Bhargava said: “It is encouraging to see the upward trajectory of prosperity in the UK continuing despite recent global volatility. “The research shows that not only is the UK still open for business, it sends a clear message that all parts of the UK are sharing in and contributing to its role as a driver of global prosperity.”
