O’Neill is Rob-bed
® MARTIN O’NEILL wishes he had worked with Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane when he was in his prime.
Keane, 36, will wave an emotional Dublin farewell in tonight’s friendly against Oman when he ends his international career.
The LA Galaxy striker will pull on the green shirt for the 146th and final time and be aiming to add to his record 67-goal tally.
Ireland boss O’Neill said: “Since I’ve come here, the only disappointment I’ve had is that I didn’t have a 27-year-old Robbie Keane rather than a 33-year-old.
“He’s been an absolutely terrific player and certainly he will be hard to replace.
“Robbie will take away some great memories.”
Keane is one goal away from equalling the 68 international goals scored by West Germany legend Gerd Muller.
The Aviva Stadium clash also serves as a warm-up for Monday’s opening World Cup qualifier in Serbia.
Fellow striker Jonathan Walters added: “Robbie’s record speaks for itself.”
