TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY SPECIAL
Gunners must pay wages to send him out on loan
ARSENAL will have to subsidise Jack Wilshere’s wages to seal a loan move for the England midfielder.
The Gunners, who finally completed the £17.1m signing of Lucas Perez yesterday, have made Wilshere available.
But while there is plenty of interest in the 24-year-old, his £90,000-a-week salary is putting potential suitors off.
Turkish club Besiktas are the only club in for him who could offer Wilshere Champions League football.
But they would want Arsenal to pay a significant chunk of his wages before doing a deal – and they are not the only ones.
Roma have also enquired about Wilshere, while Crystal Palace are keen on the injury-plagued star.
Wilshere has also been offered to Espanyol and Valencia, but both clubs have other priorities.
Escape
Arsenal signed Deportivo La Coruna striker Perez yesterday after meeting the escape clause in his contract.
The 27-year-old scored 19 goals in all competitions in Spain last season but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger says there is more to him than just goals.
Wenger said: “He’s not only a goalscorer, he’s a guy who combines well with partners, who gives a final ball and makes good runs.
“He’s got a good eye for goal and had an outstanding season last year.”
Arsenal have also completed the signing of centre-back Shkodran Mustafi in a deal worth around £35m.
And Serge Gnabry is on the verge of a loan move to Werder Bremen, according to the club’s director of sport Frank Baumann.
The 21-year-old winger scored six goals for Germany as they clinched a silver medal at the Rio Olympics.
Baumann said: “We’ve got an agreement with the player and we’re confident it will go through.”
