Curry boss in VAT dodge

-

THE boss of a curry house dodged £150,000 in VAT while his teacher wife pocketed tax credits.

Mohammed Ibrahim, 48, avoided paying HM Revenue and Customs for more than six years and had £97,000 stashed as a “nest egg” at home.

His wife Rukhsana Kuhsar Yasin, 44, falsely claimed to be a single parent while living with her husband and working at a college.

The mum-of-three also inflated her claim for childcare costs, and declared no income from working at The Chutney Restaurant in Nottingham.

A court heard the couple “lived comfortably”, spending £18,500 on a BMW and another £81,000 on four more vehicles. They also owned a rented property and extended their home.

At Nottingham Crown Court, Ibrahim pleaded guilty to tax evasion and possessing criminal property – the cash at their house in Woodthorpe, Notts. He was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years.

Yasin pleaded guilty to tax credit fraud after pocketing £53,000 between 2009 and 2014.

She got eight months in jail, suspended for two years, and was ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work. FOOTBALL club Mansfield Town have been blasted as sexist for using women in skimpy outfits called “One Call Girls” to promote sponsors One Call Insurance.
