A SINGLE FOR GIRL

-

NIALL Horan has dedicated his first solo music to a mystery girl who got away.

Yesterday the Irish lad became the first remaining member of One Direction to release a solo single.

The star channels his mate Ed Sheeran’s acoustic guitar style on This Town, about a girl he fell for back in his hometown Mullingar.

Niall, 23, explained: “For me the song has a double meaning.

“If you’re from a small town then you’ll know that there’s always one girl when you go back home that you always see out and about in bars and stuff like that.

“I’m going to check my phone for girls checking if it’s about them.

“The other meaning is about the town itself – the chorus says: ‘If the whole world was watching I’d still dance with you’.”

He teamed up with Adele’s producer Greg Kurstin and 1D songwriter Jamie Scott for the tune.

Niall said: “I started off writing with people that I already had relationships with which is Jamie Scott, who did Story Of My Life and a lot of the One Direction stuff.

“We’re really good friends so it was easy to get in the studio and start writing.”

The song has surprised even his new label Capitol Records.

He laughed: “My record company didn’t know about it. This song was kept between me and a few people. Not many people had it because the more people that have it then the more chance there is of it getting leaked.”

But we will have to wait for a follow up. He added: “The album won’t be this year I haven’t really finished it yet.

“I still have a bit of writing to do, I’m nowhere near doing shows.

“When the album comes, a tour won’t be too far away.”

Most importantly, have the other 1D Boys heard it?

Niall responded: “They knew it was coming.

“We were all obviously going to do our own bits and pieces, our own little projects.

“I just said to them: ‘I’m bringing out a tune, I hope it’s all OK’.”
