Terrified boy, 11, hangs himself after three weeks at new school

- By JOE KASPER

A BOY who hanged himself three weeks after starting a new school was being bullied, his family said last night.

Asad Khan, 11, was found in his bedroom by his mum and died shortly after in hospital.

His aunt Rehana Bibi, 34, claimed older pupils had picked on him.

She said: “This is obviously a case of bullying from school.

“I’ve heard there were 16- and 17-year-old boys in the school and they are no good, and they used to be around him and bully him.” Asad, who lived in Bradford with his mum, dad and three siblings, attended Beckfoot Upper Heaton School.

Family friend Shabnam Rani, said the boy’s relatives were “devastated” by his death.

Revealing how the tragedy unfolded, she said: “I heard he had come back from school and his mum told him to go and get changed.

“He went upstairs and his mum was waiting, but he hadn’t come downstairs.

“His mum went up and the door was locked. He wouldn’t answer so she broke the door and saw him.”

A school spokesman said: “All our thoughts are with Asad’s family at this terribly difficult time.”

West Yorkshire Police said inquiries were continuing but the death was not thought to be suspicious. ¬Ê
