BLACKADDER is being tipped for a TV comeback.
Tony Robinson says there have been discussions over a Wild West or Stone Age theme.
The show, starring Rowan Atkinson, was a big smash when first broadcast from 1983 until 1989. It last aired as a TV special to mark the Millennium.
Fans have been calling on writer Ben Elton to bring it back and now Robinson – who played dopey sidekick Baldrick – admits talks have taken place.
He said: “We’ve toyed with a huge number of different ideas, like the Wild West, imperial India, a Stone Age one. I would love to do King Alfred.”
However, the stumbling block is getting original cast members – who include Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry – to find free dates in their busy calendars.
Tony also added: “The problem is everyone has developed such fantastic projects since then.
Bungle
“And because we went out on such a high with Blackadder Goes Forth, anything we did now people would say, ‘Oh – it wasn’t like in the old days’.”
The actor also says his career could have taken a very different path as he was once offered the part of dressing up as Bungle on the kids’ show Rainbow.
He added: “I turned it down. Imagine if I’d taken that job!”
