Soap fans end up in tears
EMMERDALE fans are in a state of shock after a dramatic episode featuring drug death scenes.
Viewers were in tears as Holly Barton was found dead in bed in a storyline bosses had kept secret.
Thursday’s episode saw Holly’s body discovered by her heartbroken mother Moira, played by Natalie J Robb, following a heroin overdose.
Recovering drug addict Holly, played by Sophie Powles, had returned to the ® Dales in April after previously leaving the show in 2012.
Holly had gone back home to get clean and was in recovery, which made the scenes even more moving.
Last night actress Sophie spoke about the storyline, saying: “It’s been challenging to highlight drug addiction and it’s a very serious and stark warning to show the devastating effects it can have on people.” Fans took to social media to hail the scenes. Emma Veal wrote on Twitter. “I hope they win some awards for this.”
Donna Smith added: “I’m in floods of tears, didn’t see that coming! Did anyone else give their kids a big hug after that?”
Another fan wrote: “That was Emmerdale back on top tonight, top-class acting and such a shocker.
ITV host Phillip Schofield, who has two teenage daughters, was shocked, tweeting to his 4.1million followers: “Such a powerful @emmerdale.”
