VILLA BOSS IS A BIG FILM BUFF

- by STEVE MADELEY

ROBERTO Di MATTEO is praying his players end their away-day jinx today to spare his family another grim movie night.

Villa are without a win in almost 14 months and Di Matteo is already under pressure to save his job just 11 games into his reign.

The Italian admits more dropped points at Preston this afternoon will lead to another miserable Sunday for wife Zoe and their three children.

“When the result is not right, your family life does suffer to some extent,” he said.

“It’s not that bad but they certainly know how to deal with me and they are probably closer to me when I lose than when I win.”

Di Matteo revealed he unwinds with films when things go against him in the dugout.

Homework

And crime drama The Infiltrator, about Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, is currently providing some escape from Villa’s tough start to the season.

They have won just once under Di Matteo with his role as boss already in doubt.

“I always enjoy watching a nice movie on TV, whatever it is,” he said.

“I like movies. I’m not sure if you’ve seen the last Pablo Escobar movie. It’s good.

“This is a job that comes with pressure. You kind of deal with it.

“I tend to go home and try to maybe watch a movie or do homework with my daughter – the little one because I can’t help the big one!

“It’s things like that but if you’re in a manager’s job you have pressure, you live with it and you try to deal with it.”

Villa’s last win on the road came at Bournemouth in the Premier League on the opening day of last season and they tossed away another two away points as Barnsley grabbed a late equaliser on Tuesday.

“That is certainly a monkey that we want to get rid of for sure,” said Di Matteo. “It is always at the back of their minds.”
