Cipriani must be Ed boy

- By PETE SAMSON

® DANNY CIPRIANI has been told he needs to see off both George Ford and Owen Farrell to reclaim his England place.

Head coach Eddie Jones yesterday left the Wasps playmaker out of his 45-man elite squad for this autumn’s Twickenham internationals and then challenged him to raise his game.

Cipriani, 28, won the last of his 14 England caps in August 2015 and has not played in any of Jones’ nine Red Rose victories.

The Australian admitted he does not even see him as a back-up option after bringing in Saracens star Alex Lozowski, 23.

Jones said: “Danny knows what he’s got to do.

“We see George and Owen together as one and two. They are 23 and 24, they are the heart of the side.

“So for Cipriani to get into the squad he’s got to be able to show he can be number one.”

Flankers Sam Jones (Wasps) and Mike Williams (Leicester) plus Wasps back-rower Nathan Hughes are among seven uncapped players selected.
