Martin: Cam’s a head master

- By STEVE MADELEY

ISAAC SUCCESS insists he is ready to battle ‘big brother’ Odion Ighalo for a starting spot.

The Nigerian striker capped a perfect week when he struck his first goal since becoming Watford’s record signing this summer.

The £12.5m buy from Granada headed the 65th-minute equaliser after replacing Ighalo, just days after being called up by his country.

Now the 20-year-old has a starting spot in his sights and knows that could come at the expense of countryman Ighalo, who has helped him settle in to life in the Premier League.

Success said: “I watched last season as Odion got all those goals for Watford and I was with him at Granada for a short while.

“I came over to meet him. He is a very good player and someone I have always looked up to.

“He has given me good advice, telling me how to stay calm on the pitch no matter what the situation – that is one of his strengths.

“Every player at Watford is looking for chances to get into the team. I want to play, I don’t think too much about taking someone else’s position and there are many good players here.

Harder

“When I scored the first thing I did was to look over at the bench and Odion was celebrating more than I was – my African brother.

“He is like a big brother to me with all the advice he has given me in the past. We are one team and we won’t be thinking too much about taking each other’s place.

“If you find yourself in the team, you play. The price tag doesn’t worry me, but it makes me work harder.

“The club have seen me starting at Granada and know what I am capable of, so I have to keep working now.”

The impressive Callum Wilson put Bournemouth ahead before Troy Deeney equalised.

Josh King regained the lead for the visitors before Success hit back three minutes later.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe said last week he is not interested in the England job following the axing of Sam Allardyce.

He is seen as a long-term successor for Arsene Wenger at Arsenal though.

Cherries midfielder Andrew Surman said: “You only have to look at his track record, the last five or six years and the way he works.

“I am not surprised people are talking about him because he is a great English manager and has a great future ahead of him.

“Of course it would hard to replace him. He does seem to fit really well with Bournemouth. He’s done an amazing job and they would be large shoes to fill if he did go.” Zuniga 6, Prodl WATFORD (4-4-2): Gomes 5; 8, Peyreyra 5, 4, Kaboul 6, Holebas 7; AMRABAT 78); Deeney 7, Behrami 6, Capoue 6 (Guedioura Pantilimon, Kenedy, Ighalo 6 (Success 58, 7).
