Taking a swipe rival cooks, Si admitted he and long-time pal Dave don’t like cookery shows to be turned into a contest.

He said: “I’m not really into that kind of competitive food thing. I do watch it because the skill is fantastic. But from our point of view we wouldn’t cook anything on the telly that people can’t cook at home. We don’t really see the point.”

Dave, who is also known for competing on Strictly, reckons his telly work is nothing like Bake Off.

He said: “We do our thing and they do their thing. I don’t think the two types of shows have got anything to do with each other.”

Si says he much prefers other foodie shows.

He said: “I liked the series Rick Stein did recently. I thought that was just great.

“And I watch Saturday Kitchen quite a lot.”

Both Bake Off and Masterchef regularly run celebrity versions.

But Si and Dave have warned there is no chance of them ever taking part.

Si said: “The bottom line is that we’re cooks, not chefs. They’re very different disciplines.”

And Dave added: “It’s not something we’d do. I’m not going to be a punter. It’s what I do for a living.” ¬ know how he made his money. And I’ll ask if he enjoys being a politician.

“If he says he does I’ll tell him that’s a lie.”

The special is due to air later this year.

Their new series Chicken And Egg continues tomorrow at 8pm on BBC Two.
