CAL FEELS THE FEAR

-

CAL CRUTCHLOW became the first Brit to win a MotoGP race in Australia.

Crutchlow headed off Valentino Rossi at Phillip Island yesterday to also become the first British rider since Barry Sheene in 1979 to win two topflight races in a season.

He took over at one-thirds distance as the pole-starting and new champion, Marc Marquez, crashed out.

That “terrified” Crutchlow as memories of his crash at the same Honda corner two years earlier flooded back.

Dangerous

He said: “I’m really, really pleased to come here and race in the conditions we raced in over the weekend.

“It was about keeping your head and making a good job for the situation because we know over the weekend sometimes the situation was dangerous

“I felt that my pace was good, it was better than the other years so I am pleased for the team and I was always confident that I could win.”

Rossi’s second place extended his lead over Jorge Lorenzo, who finished sixth, to 24 points in their duel for the runnersup spot with two races remaining.
