Crash leaves Marc

® Crutchlow ran Marquez close in qualifying but the Spaniard grabbed the early initiative.

“I was confident that I could catch Marc, but then I saw him crash and I thought to myself, what do I do?” he said.

“I was terrified and I braked weakly at that corner for the rest of the race as I had crashed there two years earlier and didn’t want to make the same mistake.

“I was quite scared with that but had to keep on pushing to keep the heat in the front tyre, I had to carry on trying to maintain the pace.”

Crutchlow won by 4.218secs from Rossi, who started from the fifth row.

Rossi said: “When I saw Marquez crash I thought I might be able to win and tried, but unfortunately Cal was too fast.”
