Aaron’s mother the real winner
AARON WILBRAHAM dedicated his dramatic match-winner to his mum.
The City captain fought back tears as he revealed mother Gail had just been given the all-clear after a cancer scare.
The supersub sprinted straight towards her in celebration after snatching victory with a deflected 88th-minute winner.
“That goal was definitely for her because she’s had a big battle against cancer,” said Wilbraham.
“I got told in April she’d got throat cancer but she had the all-clear last week so it was a great feeling to get the goal and that’s why I ran over to her.
“Mum brought me up on her own because my dad passed away when I was 16 so the goal really meant a lot.
“She’s had lots of radiotherapy. I was there from the first appointment to the last. There were a lot of rough times. It was nasty.
“So I was delighted to have her down here to see me play for the first time. It was also the anniversary of my mum’s mum passing away when I was at MK Dons six years ago and I scored that day as well.”
Blackburn remain in the bottom three but boss Owen Coyle was heartened by the displays of centre-backs Tommie Hoban and Darragh Lenihan who kept England Under-21 striker Tammy Abraham quiet.
“It can be a cruel game but our centre-halves were fantastic,” said Coyle.
“They were up against a very special player but both were terrific and long may that continue.”
