Ed’s up for boss Walt

DAVE EDWARDS has leapt to the defence of under-pressure manager Walter Zenga.

Wolves suffered their fourth defeat in five games thanks to Kemar Roofe’s 71st-minute goal.

But Edwards says it’s the players who should take the blame, not their boss.

“Every single player is behind the manager,” said the Wales midfielder.

“There has been progression but we need to get wins. He’s got us playing in a more attacking way and what Walter Zenga has done in a short space of time is good – but it’s down to us, the players, not the manager to turn that into points.

“We have to assess it, look where it’s going wrong. This is one of the most technical sides I’ve been involved with at Wolves but you need to match that with the passion.

“We can’t panic. If we keep doing the right things and believe in what the manager is doing, then the results will come. We don’t want to be looking over our shoulders. We have ambitions to be promoted.

“This is a huge club with huge ambitions and that lies with the players to execute that. It’s our responsibility to show the nous and experience to win a game of football.”

Joao Teixeira, Helder Costa and Nouha Dicko went close for the hosts before Roofe put enough pressure on Silvio to force his winner.

The former Oxford star said: “We are clawing away at the teams above us and climbing up.

“But we don’t really look at the table. There is no point looking at the table until the end of the season, just focus on what we are doing in-house and work hard on the pitch.”
