TERRY MUST EARN IT

- By IAN WINROW

JOHN TERRY has been told there will be no room for sentiment during the final months of his Chelsea career.

Terry is out of contract in the summer and has found himself on the fringes of Conte’s side.

The 36-year-old could be handed a rare start in today’s FA Cup fifth-round clash at Wolves, which would be his first appearance since the fourth-round meeting with Brentford.

The cup presents Blues boss Conte with the chance to use some of his other second-string players.

But the Italian insists his No.1 priority is chasing down a league and cup double – and not maintaining a happy dressing room.

Conte, who praised Terry’s reaction to finding himself out of the starting line-up, said: “I think that it’s important for the group, for the players, that I have to try to make the best decision for the team. “The FA Cup is a great competition. We want to go in this competition until the end to try to win it. Not to find a solution to make someone happy. “It’s important to understand, when ® you stay in a great team, the most important thing, the target, is to win. Not to try to have 21 players happy and you don’t win anything.

“Because the owner doesn’t ask this, to make 21 players happy.

“I want to be happy, but I’m happy if we win. Not if we lose and to have 21 players happy.

“To be happy we go to the theatre, the cinema or to see a film. Now we stay to work very hard, to try to improve, to try to win.

“For me, I repeat, it’s important to work on different aspects to try to increase the potential of my players.”

David Luiz and Marcos Alonso are both out as they recover from minor injuries.

Conte, meanwhile, insists there will be no discussions about a new contract for in-demand striker Diego Costa until the end of the season.

He said: “I think now it’s very important to be focused on the present and not to look so far forward.

“At the end of the season we will see the situation. I’m confident (he will stay).”
