Wagner’s music to my ears
MY double this week involves two teams I had the privilege of playing for as a professional footballer – Huddersfield Town and Fulham.
On the face of it Huddersfield look to have a tough task at home to a Manchester City side who have been rampant in the Cup so far this season.
But with City having an understandable eye on Tuesday’s Champions League date with Monaco, an upset could be on the cards, especially as their opponents are no slouches and are in good form.
The Terriers are third in the Sky Bet Championship and are chasing down Brighton for an automatic promotion place. Boss David Wagner (below) has put together a team with energy, edge and invention and a forward line with a genuine goal threat.
Huddersfield will miss City loanee Aaron Mooy but top scorers Elias Kachunga and Nahki Wells are likely starters. Our 3-1 about Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown and our 5-1 about Dutch U21 international Rajiv van La Parra to score anytime both appeal. But our bet is to go with the home side to win or draw (15-8).
I am also with Fulham to win or draw with Spurs at Sky Bet’s even money. A top four position and the Europa League are higher priorities for Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and I expect Fulham to take advantage.
Spurs arrive on the back of a near FA Cup exit at the hands of League Two Wycombe and a midweek defeat in Gent, while the Cottagers have won three of their last four Championship games as well as defeating higher-rated Hull 4-1 in the fourth round.
Lincoln will not go unsupported getting a two-goal start on the handicap against Burnley at Sky Bet’s 10-11, Middlesbrough to win by exactly one goal against Oxford at 5-2 seems about right and Millwall should be competitive at home to a troubled Leicester outfit. Sky Bet’s 11-10 the Lions “draw no bet” is a fair enough price.
