few more goals. I thought the manager was going to take me off soon but fortunately I was able to sneak the third one in.

“I am fine. It was only a clash of knees, I want to play every game.

“Winning games gives you confidence, so we are buzzing to go at Wembley on Thursday.

“We played well and probably should have had a few more goals.”

Spurs face Gent in the Europa League last 32 hoping to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg as they chase glory on three fronts.

But this game came as a welcome lift after back-to-back defeats against the Belgians and Liverpool.

Pochettino said: “Many players wanted to play and didn’t feel tired.

“It was a great opportunity today to show that we are alive, and end that bad feeling after two defeats.

“We have another ‘final’ at Wembley on Thursday and we’ll need to feel fresh and to bring some confidence back. That was important today.”

Pochettino also insisted he never had any doubts about playing Kane, who has now scored 19 goals in all competitions this season.

He added: “He got a knock but it’s true it wasn’t bad and he arrived in very good condition today. We didn’t take a risk.

“If there was a risk, he’d have been on the bench or not in the squad for the Fulham game.

“But when we assessed him, he wasn’t a risk.

“After two defeats, that feeling when you lose is too difficult. It was important for us.

“All the players wanted to play and take the responsibility (at Fulham) in a very difficult stadium, against a very difficult team, a side who try to play, a great manager and very good players.

“After 3-0 it looks as if it was easy, but that was because we took the game (on) in a very good way. We showed them full respect but played as we need to play in every game.”

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic said: “Spurs showed us all the respect with a very strong starting XI.

“We have to learn how they worked without the ball, and showed unity.

“I was impressed with that part of their game. They didn’t offer us so many chances to gain a victory today.”
