Jamie fires up Foxes

- By DAVE ARMITAGE

JAMIE VARDY led the charge as Leicester’s players finally stood up to be counted.

The fired-up Foxes stunned Liverpool to earn their first Premier League win in 2017 and ease the champions’ relegation fears. It was their first game since Claudio Ranieri was sacked last Thursday. And it was a dream start for caretaker boss Craig Shakespeare, who saw striker Vardy grab the opener after 28 minutes ® following a peach of a pass from winger Marc Albrighton.

It ended Leicester’s run of 638 minutes without a league goal.

Danny Drinkwater lashed home a superb 25-yard volley 11 minutes later as Leicester climbed out of the drop zone.

Vardy wrapped it up in the 60th minute when he headed in a cross from Christian Fuchs.

Philippe Coutinho side-footed in a consolation for Liverpool 22 minutes from time.
