MISSING airman Corrie McKeague could have died in a tragic accident after crawling into a wheelie bin and falling asleep, police believe.
Detectives who spent six months investigating his disappearance after a night out suspect no crime was committed.
They think the 23-yearold may have climbed into the bin in a loading bay for warmth during the early hours of the morning.
Then he was either crushed or suffocated when it was emptied soon afterwards by a refuse truck which took it to a landfill site.
Officers say it could take 10 weeks to scour the dump at Milton, Cambs, where his body is believed to be.

Corrie’s mum Nicola, 48, said: “We know we are going to find him in the landfill. It’s just a matter of time now. All I can do is focus on finding him.
“I don’t understand how the process has allowed him to get to the landfill.
“That was one thing that was trying to keep me believing that Corrie could still be alive. There’s just no way realistically that Corrie wasn’t in that bin.”
A lorry which picked up bins near where Corrie was last seen in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, had been 14stone heavier than previously thought. The breakthrough followed the arrest of a 26-year-old waste company worker on suspicion of attempting to pervert justice relating to “information provided to the investigation”. He will face no further action.
Police are certain the bin weight had been incorrectly recorded and the truck ferried Corrie to the landfill site 29 miles away.
Det Supt Katie Elliot said: “There are a number of possibilities. It doesn’t automatically become a murder inquiry if we find Corrie.” Still only
