DISCOVERED in Primark. A mum at 19. One of the hottest supermodels in the world. And now a fashion designer.

Aged just 26, Jourdan Dunn is not your average catwalk clothes horse. And now she has added a new string to her bow with her debut fashion collection for Missguided, featuring sexy bralets, leotards, hooded tops and tracksuits. It’s clear Jourdan is thrilled with her latest venture. She says: “I’m in a new stage of my life, a new chapter, and I want to give something interesting. “This is something I truly believe in and I want it to have longevity.” Scouted at 15 while shopping in a west London Primark in 2006, Jourdan is now part of the elite crew of supermodels and boasts the likes of Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne among her friends. Jourdan was the first black British catwalker to enter the Forbes models’ rich list, is thought to earn around £4million a year and in 2015 became the first solo black model to grace the cover of Vogue in 12 years. But, despite her jet-setting lifestyle, the leggy star is happiest at home with her son Riley, seven. She splits her time between London and New York and admits it can be difficult to say goodbye. “He’s in school now so my mum looks after him when I’m away,” she explains. “I want him to have a good routine and he’s really good with it, but sometimes it does get to him.

Emotional

“I’ll be at home for a few days and then I get scared of telling him I’m going because he gets really emotional.

“He’s like: ‘Mummy, why can’t you be like other parents and stay and work in London?’

“But then he gets over it when he realises: ‘OK mummy, you’re making money so I can get loads of toys, right?’”

Jourdan is also a keen chef and has already hosted cookery shows online. And she’s working on a cookbook focusing on spice, which is due to come out this year.

“I’m back in the kitchen, doing recipes and having my son get involved and it’s been going well,” says Jourdan. “I love curries because of all the different flavours that I like to combine to make such an amazing dish.

“I make my own curry paste all from scratch, too. If I’m doing a Thai curry, I’ll put lemongrass and cumin seeds in it.” Despite her upbeat look on life, Jourdan admits she’s struggled with the pressures of being a supermodel.

“Every show season it can be a lot and you’re travelling and it takes a lot out of you,” she explains.

“I get emotional when I’m tired and hungry and rushed up and down. I used to rely on Red Bull so much – I used to go through four or five cans but only when I was travelling or shooting.”

The 6ft star also admits she became reliant on another unusual fix. “I do believe heavily in psychics and things,” she confesses.

“There was a time when I was seeing them and depending on them and living my life through them.

“But now I’m at a stage where I’m going to live my life and see what happens and trust myself.” So what has been this down-to-earth London girl’s biggest showbiz moment? “Getting invited to celebrate New Year’s Eve with Beyoncé and Jay Z,” she says. “Also celebrating her birthday last year. For me, a personal invite was just amazing.” ¬
