TOO FAT TO GET INTO MY HOUSE!

42st Paul’s cancer plight

- By JERRY LAWTON jerry.lawton@dailystar.co.uk

A 42ST man has been stuck in hospital for 30 weeks as he is too fat to go home.

Cancer sufferer Paul Humphrey has been told he cannot return to his family because their property is too small for him.

His mum Linda asked her landlord if she could remove a front window so a specialist hospital bed could be squeezed in. But she says they were told that is not practical.

The family has considered moving but cannot find a big enough house close to carers who would look after him.

Paul, 37, has lost 3st in hospital but it is not enough to make his return home possible.

Doctors have told him his condition is terminal and his mum has appealed to housing associations for a specially adapted bungalow so she can care for him in his final days.

Linda said: “I am heartbroken. I want my boy home before he dies.

“I do not know how long he has got but what time there is, is precious. It is an instinctive thing for a mum to want to be by her son.

“It is hard enough knowing you will lose your son but knowing you can’t have him home is awful. “I need precious time with him. He loves his mum’s cuddles.”

Linda said her son, of Grimsby, Lincs, had “always been a big lad”.

But his weight ballooned when he fell ill and lost his mobility.

Stepdad Norman Howe, 46, said the private landlord who rented them their three-bed terrace for £415-a-month had refused to make alterations.

A spokesman for council house provider Home Choice Lincs said: “It’s obviously an extremely distressing time.

“We have been liaising with them and the various support agencies to see where we may be able to help.”

The private landlord’s agents declined to comment.
