WHEN WE WAGED WAR!

- By STEVE MADELEY

BROTHERS Danny and Nicky Cowley are so close they even share their wages. And Lincoln’s ‘family firm’ believe they will always come as a pair – after not having had a blazing row since smashing their parents’ fish tank as kids. Manager Danny and assistant Nicky have worked together in football and at school, where they teamed up as PE teachers until getting their break in full-time management. And the pair reckon their bond is unbreakable. “Our wages are different, but we share them so we get half each – because every decision is a joint decision,” said Danny.

“I think our relationship and our unity is our strength. I would only be half as good if I was on my own, so it’s a relationship that works for us.

“We have trust, a loyalty, which are hard things to find in football. We know each other inside out.

“We don’t fall out properly, although he once threw a snooker ball at me when I potted the black!

“He would have been about seven and I would have been about 10. Mom and dad had just had a new carpet and we had a fish tank behind us.

“I am a bad loser but Nicky is a terrible loser. He picked the ball up and threw it at me, I ducked and it went right through the fish tank. Our dad only found out about a year ago.”

The pair go to Arsenal having picked up some tips from legendary rugby coach Sir Clive Woodward.

The trio spoke live on radio after the win against Burnley and England’s World Cup-winning coach has since been to visit the brothers. Nicky said: “He came to Danny’s house last Sunday morning – I couldn’t get round there quick enough!”
